The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Patterson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Bjj has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Patterson finds it's way round the side to connect with Bjj's head.
The fighters circle momentarily. Patterson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Bjj fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Derek Patterson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Patterson swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bjj.
Bjj tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Patterson swivels and escapes.

Patterson closes the distance and clinches.
Bjj looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Patterson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Patterson is trying to break the clinch but Bjj has him pressed against the cage.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bjj.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bjj wants to control the pace but Patterson is squirming around nicely.

Bjj is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Patterson is surviving well by controlling Bjj's body position as best he can.
Patterson is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Bjj throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Patterson has his hands clasped together but Bjj breaks the hold and Patterson is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Bjj!
