PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jermaine Choake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Guilherme Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Choake comes to the cage accompanied by Hans Zimmer - The Kraken. Alves is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Guerreiro by Curumin. Jermaine Choake has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jermaine Choake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Guilherme Alves!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Skip Squint and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Alves misses the target.
Alves throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Alves tries to land a leg kick but Choake saw it coming and moves away.
Choake tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Alves with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Alves fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Choake fails in his attempt to clinch.
Alves chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Choake can pounce on him.
Alves avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Choake has Alves up against the cage in a clinch.
Alves looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Alves wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Alves gets underhooks to prevent Choake's takedown attempt.
Alves throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Alves breaks the clinch.

Choake shoots in and bounces Alves off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Choake got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alves has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Choake has managed to get both his arms back between Alves's legs - danger averted.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Alves looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Choake puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Choake is nestled in close to Alves, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Alves is trying to maintain the position but Choake is very close to passing his half guard.
Choake lands with a punch from half guard.

Choake is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Alves is trying to get back to full guard.
Choake looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Alves tries to get to full guard but Choake has control of the leg.

Alves manages to get to full guard.
Alves not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Alves working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Choake doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Choake manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Choake passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Choake wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Alves, who protects the arm well.
Alves manages to get back to half guard.

Alves wants to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alves makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Alves.
Choake won't allow Alves to sweep him here.

Alves working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Choake has passed into half guard!
Choake wants to control but Alves is keeping him busy.
Alves slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Choake working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Alves looking to control.
Alves keeping moving, preventing Choake from controlling successfully.
Alves wants to hit a switch here but Choake passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Alves there!
Choake lands a heavy elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alves tries to lock up and control but Choake gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Choake lands a couple of good shots and Alves has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Alves tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Alves is working to get back to half guard.
Choake can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Alves is looking to escape.
Alves slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Choake has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Alves keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jermaine Choake will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Choake misses with a low kick.
Choake ducks under a wild hook from Alves.
Choake tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Alves paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Alves throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Alves throws a hook to the side of Choake's head but Choake sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Alves shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Choake takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Choake scores with a crisp jab that stopped Alves in his tracks.
Alves throws a leg kick
and Choake counters with a slapping leg kick.

Choake drives through with a takedown into Alves's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Alves has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Choake has passed into side control.
Alves regains half guard.
Alves wants to get back to full guard but Choake has mounted him!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Alves is in a horrible position here. Choake smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Jermaine Choake overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Alves can't escape the position.

Choake unloading with bombs!
Choake can't control as he wanted to and Alves manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Alves is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Alves manages to get to full guard.
Choake trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.
Alves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Alves looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Choake cracks Alves with a solid left hand.
Choake has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Choake makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Choake trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom.
Choake works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Choake prevents Alves from improving his position.
Choake slips a nice elbow through Alves's hands, connecting with Alves's forehead.

Alves looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Choake looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Alves with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Choake passes to full mount!
Alves bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Choake will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Choake is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Alves defends well.

Alves stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Choake throws up his legs and catches Alves in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Alves tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Choake! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Jermaine Choake!
Jermaine Choake gave a mention to Fury Nutrition Inc. in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
