PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cody Montgomery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Durk Tent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cody Montgomery has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Montgomery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Durk Tent!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Montgomery tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Tent swivels and escapes.
Tent stuffs the takedown attempt from Montgomery. Montgomery gets slowly back to his feet.

Tent gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Tent gets through Montgomery's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Montgomery tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tent smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cody Montgomery. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Montgomery looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Montgomery tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Tent fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Montgomery sprawls well initially but Tent persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Still in half guard, Tent seems content to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tent is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Montgomery flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Tent not doing much here.
Montgomery knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tent on the ground.
Tent is thwarting Montgomery's attempts to control the position.

Montgomery tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Tent content just to control the position here.
Let's hope that Tent has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Montgomery is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Tent is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Montgomery can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
BOOM! Tent connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Tent keeps the fight on the outside.
Tent fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Tent shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Montgomery manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tent content to stall in guard here.
Tent postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Tent looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Tent's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Durk Tent.
Montgomery tries to clinch up.
Montgomery moves in looking to clinch but Tent pushes him off.

Tent manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Montgomery on his heels. He'll look to pass Montgomery's guard now, I'm sure.

Tent gets to mount! Montgomery was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Tent takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Tent has control of Montgomery's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Montgomery regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Montgomery tries to reverse the position but Tent maintains control.

Tent has hold of Montgomery's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Montgomery manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Durk Tent has got the better of the ground game so far.
Montgomery is in a horrible position here. Tent smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Tent is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Montgomery is surviving well by controlling Tent's body position as best he can.
Montgomery wants to control but Tent is having none of it.

Tent takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Tent lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Tent avoids the attempt from Montgomery to control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tent takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Durk Tent showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Tent shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Montgomery but Montgomery pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Tent will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Tent closes the distance and clinches.
Montgomery has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Tent avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Tent lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Montgomery wants to take the fight to the mat but Tent manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Montgomery tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Tent has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Montgomery is trying to keep an underhook but Tent manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Tent misses with a head shot. Montgomery uses the momentum to regain guard.

Montgomery had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tent defends it easily.

Tent is taking a breather. Montgomery says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Durk Tent was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Montgomery tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Montgomery dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tent looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Cody Montgomery has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Durk Tent is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Tent takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Montgomery shoots in but no luck this time.

And that's the end of the fight!
Durk Tent comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tent winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
