PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Timoteo Belo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bata Szmata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Timoteo Belo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bata Szmata!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belo throws the kick towards the body but Szmata avoids it.
Belo connects with a high kick.

Szmata drives through with a takedown into Belo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Szmata is stalling in the full guard.

Belo scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Szmata wants to clinch.
Belo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Belo keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Belo throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Szmata fails with a takedown attempt.
Belo turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
A jab lands there for Belo.
Szmata lands with a hook. Belo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Belo has Szmata up against the cage in a clinch.
Belo misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Szmata.
Belo has Szmata pressed against the cage, preventing Szmata from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Belo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Belo stalks Szmata and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Szmata's face. Szmata staggers backwards, shaken.

Szmata shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Belo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Szmata's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Szmata stands and throws Belo's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Szmata tries to stand but Belo is controlling his head.
Belo is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Szmata takes a little break here. Belo wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Szmata is looking to take a break and control but Belo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Belo is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Szmata asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Szmata wants to control but Belo is keeping him busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Bata Szmata.
Belo stalks Szmata and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Szmata's face. Szmata staggers backwards, shaken.

Szmata is rocked!

Belo takes the fight into the clinch.
Szmata is still on wobbly legs! Can Belo finish him?

Belo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Belo misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Szmata seems to have recovered his senses.
Szmata changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Belo tries to avoid it but Szmata manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Belo to the ground. Belo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Szmata closes the distance and clinches.

Belo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Szmata tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Szmata closes the distance but Belo moves to the side
and Belo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Timoteo Belo will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Szmata tries a head kick but it misses.
Szmata misses with a wild combination.
Szmata will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Belo connects with a crisp jab.
Belo walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Szmata drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Belo swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Szmata's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Timoteo Belo!
