PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Don Slice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fredrik Kangas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slice kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Welcome to the Jungle. Kangas has chosen Slayer - Raning Blood as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don Slice!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fredrik Kangas!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Dean Styles and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kangas shoots in looking for a takedown. Slice tries to sprawl out of it but Kangas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Slice manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Slice tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kangas paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kangas gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Kangas shoots in for a double leg but Slice sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Kangas misses with a wild combination.
Slice throws a low kick, looking for Kangas's leg but Kangas calmly moves out of range.
Kangas walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Fredrik Kangas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slice drops Kangas with a right and a left! Slice comes rushing in but Kangas regains his composure and manages to keep Slice in guard.


Kangas is rocked!
Kangas pulls Slice in close to his closed guard and prevents Slice from doing any damage or advancing position.
Kangas is still in real trouble! Can Slice finish him?

Kangas seems to have recovered his senses.

Slice lands a couple of decent looking shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slice throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kangas works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kangas is looking for a triangle but Slice pushes his legs off easily.
Kangas looking to control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Slice fails to land with a series of punches.
Kangas clinches but Slice breaks the clinch
and Slice counters with a nice body shot.
Kangas looks gassed!
Kangas wants to clinch but Slice slips to the side

and Slice counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Slice.
Kangas working a defensive guard but Slice passes into half guard.
Slice wants to free his trapped foot but Kangas is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Slice is looking to take a break and control but Kangas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Slice tries to stand and escape but Kangas is controlling the position.

Kangas trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Kangas is looking to improve his position but Slice isn't that keen on the idea.
BOOM! Slice connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Kangas is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Slice in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kangas is looking to get to half guard.
The referee warns Kangas that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Slice postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kangas looks a forlorn figure.
Kangas tries to reverse the position but Slice maintains control.
Kangas wants to control but Slice is having none of it.
Kangas is trying to escape the mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Slice dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Kangas moves into the clinch successfully.

Kangas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kangas tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Slice counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Slice wants to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Slice. No joy for Kangas on that attempt.
Kangas swats away the attempt to clinch by Slice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kangas stuffs the takedown.

and Kangas counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Kangas keeps control of Slice as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
With the fighters up against the cage, Kangas throws an elbow but misses.
Kangas drops down looking for an ankle pick but Slice pulls his leg out and moves away.
Don Slice has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fredrik Kangas.

and Kangas counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kangas.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kangas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kangas tries to stand but Slice is controlling from the bottom.
Kangas lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kangas is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Kangas wants to control from the top but Slice keeps moving.

Kangas stands and steps away. Slice gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Slice misses with a wild combination.
Kangas throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Slice has a takedown stuffed.
Don Slice is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Some wild striking there from Slice.
Slice misses with a body kick.
No luck for Kangas with that takedown attempt.

Kangas clinches up with Slice and pushes him back against the cage.
Kangas keeps control of Slice as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Kangas turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Kangas manages to end up in side control.
Kangas advances to full mount.

Kangas with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Kangas content just to control the position here.

Kangas wants to control the pace but Slice is squirming around nicely.
Kangas connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fredrik Kangas showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Slice keeps the fight on the outside.
A head kick misses from Kangas.
Kangas is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Slice lands with a shot to the body.
Kangas wants to clinch but Slice slips to the side

and Slice counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Kangas!
Slice is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Kangas wants to get back to full guard but Slice has mounted him!
Kangas really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Slice content just to control the position here.
Kangas wants to control but Slice is having none of it.
Kangas is trying desperately to improve position.
Kangas is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Slice looking to control but Kangas is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Poor strikes thrown by Slice there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Kangas is desperately trying to improve his position but Slice has a good base and remains in mount.
Fredrik Kangas has got the better of the ground game so far.
Slice avoids the attempt from Kangas to control.

Slice prevents Kangas from getting the reversal.
Kangas tries to hold on but Slice postures up.
Kangas is wriggling around trying to escape.
Kangas is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Kangas regains half guard.
Kangas is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Slice's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Slice's back!
Kangas lands a shot to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
I really don't envy Slice right now.
Kangas tries to keep control of the position but Slice is staying busy.
Slice has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Kangas.
I would not like to be Slice right now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Don Slice showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Slice has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
