Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Morning Sunshine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rodrigo Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Morning Sunshine!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sunshine closes the distance and clinches.
Sunshine avoiding damage as Cruz throws knees to the body.

Sunshine has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Cruz uses from the top position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Sunshine has a closed guard, preventing Cruz from standing up.
Cruz tries to free his leg and advance position but Sunshine is retaining full guard.

Cruz drops back looking for a leg! Sunshine is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sunshine manages to kick Cruz off! Cruz jumps back into Sunshine's guard.

Sunshine is working an open guard so Cruz takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Cruz shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Cruz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Sunshine manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Cruz shoots in for a takedown but Sunshine shows good takedown defense.

Sunshine is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Cruz moves in looking to clinch but Sunshine pushes him off.
Cruz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sunshine as he jumps to the side.

Cruz is breathing heavily.
Sunshine lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cruz fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Sunshine manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Cruz wants to pass the guard but Sunshine is keeping the position.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sunshine holds on and takes a little breather.

Sunshine really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cruz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sunshine is looking to stand up but Cruz isn't so interested in that idea.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sunshine uses the cage to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Morning Sunshine dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cruz feints and then cracks Sunshine's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sunshine down.
Rodrigo Cruz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Sunshine counters by moving into the clinch.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Sunshine tries to pull guard but Cruz forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Cruz decides to return to a standing position.

Sunshine tries to score a body lock takedown but Cruz shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Cruz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sunshine stuffs the takedown.
Cruz shoots in looking for a takedown. Sunshine tries to sprawl out of it but Cruz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sunshine manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Cruz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sunshine, up you get!

Cruz fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sunshine to the ground. Cruz is now in Sunshine's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Sunshine controls Cruz momentarily but Cruz frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Morning Sunshine.

Sunshine pulls Cruz in close to prevent any damage.

Cruz wants to control from the top but Sunshine keeps moving.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Cruz is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sunshine is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sunshine has escaped and now he's on top!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cruz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sunshine is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sunshine fails to land the takedown.
Sunshine misses with a takedown attempt - Cruz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Cruz closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sunshine quickly recovers to half guard.

Sunshine pushes Cruz off looking to stand but Cruz dives back in and keeps control.

Sunshine has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cruz is working away from the top position though.

Cruz is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Sunshine's shoulder. That is not cool.

Cruz cracks Sunshine with a big elbow.
Cruz in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Rodrigo Cruz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cruz swings around for an armbar but Sunshine sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cruz's guard.
Sunshine is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Cruz wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
