PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Kuruts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Szakul Ingwar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alex Kuruts had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alex Kuruts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Szakul Ingwar!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ingwar closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Ingwar manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Ingwar looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ingwar tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kuruts pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ingwar is keeping the position for now.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kuruts accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ingwar has his foot on Kuruts's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kuruts works his way back into a safe position though.
Kuruts is standing up over Ingwar. Ingwar looks to escape but Kuruts dives into side control.
Ingwar is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Ingwar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kuruts. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kuruts not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Ingwar trying to control from the bottom.
Ingwar regains full guard. Nicely done.
Kuruts stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ingwar swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kuruts postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ingwar is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kuruts, into his guard.
Kuruts is trying to keep Ingwar in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kuruts had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ingwar defends it easily.

Kuruts looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Kuruts is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ingwar is aware though and is defending well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ingwar lands a couple of elbows.
Kuruts controls Ingwar momentarily but Ingwar frees himself.

Ingwar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ingwar would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Ingwar looking to pass the guard.
Ingwar wanted to stand there but Kuruts had control of the position.

Kuruts looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kuruts trying to control the position.
Ingwar tries to stand but Kuruts is controlling from the bottom.

Kuruts is working an open guard so Ingwar takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Ingwar scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ingwar tries to clinch there but Kuruts circles away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kuruts has managed to clinch.
Kuruts goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ingwar prevents it.
Ingwar's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Szakul Ingwar dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ingwar tries to close the distance and clinch but Kuruts swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Ingwar clinches up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Kuruts's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Ingwar unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Kuruts tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ingwar smiles and moves away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kuruts is defended easily by Ingwar.
Ingwar tries to clinch there but Kuruts circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ingwar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kuruts keeps the fight on the outside.
Ingwar misses with the combination.
Ingwar tries to clinch there but Kuruts circles away.
Ingwar fails in his attempt to clinch.
Ingwar stuffs the takedown attempt from Kuruts. Kuruts gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Kuruts. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ingwar drives through and clinches with Kuruts against the cage.

Ingwar has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kuruts uses from the top position.
Kuruts wants to control from the top but Ingwar keeps moving.
Kuruts sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ingwar's guard.

Kuruts in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Ingwar tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Kuruts!
