PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse Gervais (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes into the arena with Gracie Entrance blaring out of the sound system. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ricardo Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jesse Gervais!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gervais shoots in for a double leg but Gracie sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Gervais fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Gracie shoots in and gets a takedown into Gervais's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Gracie's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Gervais is keeping the position.
Gracie slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gervais wants to stand up but Gracie is controlling him.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Ricardo Gracie just wasn't active enough.
Gracie shoots in and drives through. Gervais sprawls well.

Gracie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gervais avoids it really well and circles away.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Gracie was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Gracie is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gervais knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gracie wants to finish this one by submission but Gervais is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gracie.

Gervais is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Gracie controlling the position easily from mount.

Gracie thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Gracie tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Gervais can't escape the position.
Gracie sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Gracie seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gervais for as long as he can get away with.

Ricardo Gracie has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Gracie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gervais looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Gervais is trying to control Gracie's posture but Gracie avoids it.
Gracie trying to control the action but Gervais is working from the bottom.

Gracie looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Gervais being controlled for a moment.
Gervais avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Gracie.

Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's seven minutes gone in the round.
Gracie is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Gervais's shoulder. That is not cool.

Gracie is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Gervais is trying to escape and Gracie transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Gervais is forced to tap! Nice work there by Gracie! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ricardo Gracie!
