Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tiger JK! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jonathan Mayers! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mayers fails miserably with a takedown attempt. No luck for Mayers with that takedown attempt. Mayers shoots in looking for a takedown. JK tries to sprawl out of it but Mayers keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. JK manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Tiger JK has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Mayers. Mayers with a poor takedown and JK holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. JK looks to throw an elbow but misses. Mayers is fighting off a takedown attempt but JK is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mayers to the mat. Mayers regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Mayers throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. JK trying to control the position from guard on top but Mayers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. JK throws a big right hand that misses. JK drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mayers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now JK has Mayers in his guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mayers controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayers wants to control from the top but JK keeps moving. Mayers looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Mayers won't allow JK to get back to his feet. Mayers drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but JK manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mayers has JK in his guard. JK wants to control from the top but Mayers keeps moving. JK landing some decent shots from guard. JK won't allow Mayers to sweep him here. JK has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's three minutes gone in the round. JK working some strikes from top position. Mayers working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. JK doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Mayers is tightening it up a little... JK has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! JK reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! JK taps out! Nice BJJ there by Mayers!
