PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Boris Presnyakov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and PJ Benn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Presnyakov has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. PJ Benn is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, PJ Benn!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Ivan Kurochkin and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Presnyakov tries to sprawl but Benn drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Presnyakov looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Presnyakov won't allow Benn to pass to mount.
Presnyakov blocking the ground and pound attempt from Benn.
Benn is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Benn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Presnyakov keeps working.
Benn not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Benn fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Presnyakov has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Benn shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Benn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Presnyakov to the mat! Presnyakov manages to get full guard.

Benn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Presnyakov was covering up waiting for the punch and Benn finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Benn controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Benn wants to pass the guard but Presnyakov is keeping the position.
Benn is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Benn has closed the distance and engaged Presnyakov in a clinch.

PJ Benn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Presnyakov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Benn throws a combination. Presnyakov tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Benn fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Presnyakov sprawls well initially but Benn persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Benn in particular looking to stall.

Benn looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Benn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Presnyakov drops his hands momentarily and Benn takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Benn tries to stand and escape but Presnyakov is controlling the position.
Presnyakov gets back to full guard.

Benn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Benn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Benn gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
PJ Benn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Benn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
