PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis comes to the cage accompanied by Snoop DoGG. On his way into the cage it seems that Ricky Davis has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ricky Davis seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ricky Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcelo Alves!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alves as he avoids it easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Davis is defended easily by Alves.

Davis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Davis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Alves, who protects the arm well.
Alves regains half guard.
Davis is looking to advance position but Alves won't allow it.

Davis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Alves sees it coming and defends easily.
Alves moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Davis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Davis is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Davis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Alves lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Davis!

Alves lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Davis is looking to improve his position but Alves isn't that keen on the idea.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Alves lands a big elbow.
Davis bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Alves can't keep his opponent in guard - Davis advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Davis frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Alves slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Alves tries to get to full guard but Davis has control of the leg.
Alves is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Davis drops back looking for a leg! Alves is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Alves manages to kick Davis off! Davis jumps back into Alves's guard.

Davis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Davis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Davis is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Alves is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Alves has escaped and now he's on top!
Alves keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Davis's head.
Alves wants to control from the top but Davis keeps moving.
Alves wants to pass the guard but Davis is keeping the position.

Davis working for submissions but it's allowed Alves to get to half guard.
Alves is trying to control. Davis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Davis manages to get to full guard.

Davis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alves can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Alves connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Davis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Alves sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Alves stuffs the takedown attempt from Davis. Davis gets slowly back to his feet.
Davis shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alves but Alves pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricky Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Davis takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Alves stuffs the takedown attempt from Davis. Davis gets slowly back to his feet.

Alves loads up on a big right hand but Davis slips the punch.

Davis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Davis shoots in for a takedown but Alves shows good takedown defense.
Alves connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Marcelo Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Davis shoots for a double leg takedown but Alves sprawls well. He's pushed Davis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Davis has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Alves.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Alves misses with a low kick as Davis jumps back.
Alves tries to close the distance and clinch but Davis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Alves tries to clinch there but Davis circles away.

Alves throws a shot from downtown. Davis moves away and avoids it.
Davis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Alves missing with a left hand there. Davis was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Alves throws a nice inside leg kick.

Davis throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Alves tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Davis is in Alves's guard.

Davis drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Alves manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Davis has Alves in his guard.

Davis has momentary wrist control but Alves slips an elbow through the middle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ricky Davis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Davis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alves gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Alves loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Davis is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Alves is aware though and is defending well.
Davis looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alves is one step ahead there.
Alves distracts Davis with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcelo Alves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Horrible takedown by Davis or perhaps it was just good defense by Alves which made him look bad.

Alves is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Davis.

Davis shoots for a double leg takedown but Alves sprawls well. He's pushed Davis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Davis shoots in looking for a takedown but Alves manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Davis's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Davis is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Alves is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
