And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Paulson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzales shoots for a double leg takedown but Paulson sprawls well. He's pushed Gonzales's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gonzales doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Paulson counters with a single leg into guard. Gonzales didn't expect that.

Paulson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Paulson has knee on belly and moves into mount.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Paul Paulson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Gonzales knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Paulson on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Well, if Paulson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Gonzales throws a sloppy head kick and Paulson moves out of range easily.

Paulson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gonzales is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Paulson.

Paulson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gonzales's guard.

Paulson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Paulson moves into full mount! Gonzales won't be happy about that!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Paulson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Gonzales takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

BOOM! Paulson connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Gonzales tries to get back to half guard but can't.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Paulson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Gonzales can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Paulson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Paul Paulson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Paulson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gonzales tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Paulson is in Gonzales's guard.

Well Paulson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
