PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Karach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Duffee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Karach!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Todd Duffee!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karach closes the distance and clinches up with Duffee, looking for a takedown. Karach pushes Duffee against the cage but Duffee circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Karach pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Duffee drives through with a takedown into Karach's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Karach is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Duffee is aware though and is defending well.

Duffee avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Duffee connects with a couple of short punches.
Karach bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Duffee's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Duffee pushes Karach off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Duffee dives in and scores a takedown into Karach's guard.
Karach is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Karach trying to keep a closed guard but Duffee is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Duffee wants to pass the guard but Karach is keeping the position.
Duffee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Karach. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Duffee wants to control from the top but Karach keeps moving.
Karach looking for a sweep. Not yet Karach, not yet.
Duffee sitting in guard, not really doing much.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Todd Duffee was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Karach looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Karach is breathing heavily.

Duffee shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Karach's guard.

Karach has a closed guard, preventing Duffee from standing up.
Duffee's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Duffee trying to control the position from guard on top but Karach is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Duffee trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Todd Duffee was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Duffee looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Karach!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Karach manages to get back to half guard.

Still in half guard, Duffee seems content to control.

Karach is defending against the submission attempts here by Duffee.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Karach is staying active underneath Duffee, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Duffee looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Karach is trying to control but can't.
Karach trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Karach is bucking up trying to escape but Duffee cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Karach defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Duffee.
Duffee scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Karach?


It looks like Alex Karach has been cut.
Duffee controlling from mount.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Todd Duffee dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Alex Karach's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Karach slips a jab and a cross from Duffee.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Duffee.
Karach sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Karach is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Duffee lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
It looks like Duffee is going to stand back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Duffee seems to be looking for submissions.
Duffee tries to pass to full mount but Karach defends it.
Duffee prevents Karach from improving his position.
Karach throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Karach is not content to let Duffee control the position.
Karach is trying to stand back up but Duffee is controlling him

That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like Duffee is going to stand back up.
Duffee is trying to control the action in half guard but Karach is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Karach makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Karach.
Karach trying to keep a closed guard but Duffee is proving a slippery customer.
Karach throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Karach controls Duffee momentarily but Duffee frees himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Duffee looking to pass the guard.

Duffee is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Todd Duffee hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Duffee has taken the fight to the clinch.
Duffee blocks an elbow strike from Karach.
Karach drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Karach gets underhooks to prevent Duffee's takedown attempt.

Duffee escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Karach misses with a takedown attempt - Duffee sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Karach tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Duffee swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Karach. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Duffee fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Karach, pushing him back against the cage.
Karach takes an elbow to the temple.

Duffee has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Karach clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Duffee has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Karach's body.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Duffee is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Karach knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Karach for a finish.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Karach controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Todd Duffee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Duffee drops Karach with a beautiful combination! Karach stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Duffee is looking for the KO!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Duffee closes this distance looking for a takedown but Karach circles away.
Karach could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Karach moves in looking to clinch but Duffee pushes him off.
Karach tries to close the distance and clinch up but Duffee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Karach misses with a straight left.
Duffee fails to land the takedown.
Duffee tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Karach was well out of range. Poor timing from Duffee.
Duffee fails in his attempt to clinch.
Karach looks to score with a jab to the body but Duffee is just out of range.
Duffee throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A punch combination from Karach misses.

Duffee looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Karach!
Todd Duffee has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Duffee wants to stand but Karach has his arm trapped.
Karach struggling a bit here.
Karach wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Duffee lands a nice forearm strike.

Karach throws Duffee to one side and escapes!
Karach looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Duffee is fending him off so far but Karach persists. Nope, Duffee circles away and we're back to standing.

Duffee pushes Karach up against the cage in a clinch.

Duffee is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Karach can't fight it off and eventually Duffee manages to take the fight to the floor. Karach looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Duffee stands up from Karach's guard - Duffee perhaps looking for a knockout.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Duffee tries to bum rush Karach with a series of wild strikes but Karach uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Duffee cracks Karach with a good jab.


Alex Karach's cut is getting worse.
Duffee clobbers Karach with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Duffee looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Karach!
Karach is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Karach is working hard here to advance position.
Duffee is working Karach over with some ground and pound from side control.
Duffee working the head with strikes.
You can see the frustration on Karach's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Duffee decides to stand back up. Duffee steps back and let's Karach get back to his feet.

Karach tries to sprawl but Duffee drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Karach is trying to stand back up but Duffee is controlling him
Duffee slips a nice elbow through Karach's hands, connecting with Karach's forehead.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Karach pushes Duffee off looking to stand but Duffee dives back in and keeps control.

Karach tries to kick Duffee off but Duffee keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Todd Duffee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Duffee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
