PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mookie Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anderson Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mookie Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson closes the distance but Silva moves to the side
and Silva counters with a right hand to the body.

Silva moves into range and clinches up with Jackson.
Jackson is trying to break free.

Silva breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jackson shoots and misses
and Silva counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Silva stalks Jackson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jackson's face. Jackson staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Mookie Jackson has been cut.
Jackson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Silva gets in close and instigates a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Silva manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Silva kicks Jackson off and gets to his feet.

Silva feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jackson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Silva is one step ahead there.
Silva works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Silva missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Anderson Silva wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Silva gets the takedown into side control.

Silva stands up.

Silva closes the distance and clinches.

Silva gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Silva is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Jackson looks winded!

Jackson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Jackson has eaten all the pies!

Jackson wants to control the position but Silva says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Silva is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Jackson has managed to free his arm - good work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Silva works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva content just to control the position here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Silva dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Mookie Jackson's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Silva gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Silva lands a knee to the body.
Jackson wants to stall.
Jackson wants to break the clinch but can't.

Silva has picked Jackson up - he's going for a ride! Silva dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Silva seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jackson for as long as he can get away with.

Silva has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Jackson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Silva yanks on the arm and Jackson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Silva.
