Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Harvey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Charles!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Shimada and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles has a takedown stuffed.
Charles closes this distance looking for a takedown but Harvey circles away.

Charles moves into range and clinches up with Harvey.

Harvey breaks from the clinch.
Harvey ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Charles moves away.
Charles is looking to clinch.
Charles looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Steve Harvey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Charles.
Harvey stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Harvey wants it to stay on the feet.
Charles shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Harvey as he jumps to the side.

John Charles seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Charles forces Harvey back against the cage and clinches.
Harvey wants to break free but Charles has control.

Harvey manages to break the clinch.
Harvey thuds a left hand into Charles's body.
Charles throws a sloppy head kick and Harvey moves out of range easily.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Charles.
Charles lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Harvey circles away quickly and effectively.
Charles tries to score a power double leg takedown but Harvey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Charles somewhat.
Charles fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Charles tries to close the distance and clinch but Harvey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Harvey misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Charles.
Charles throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Harvey's waist but Harvey gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Charles off to one side.
Charles closes the distance and clinches up with Harvey, looking for a takedown. Charles pushes Harvey against the cage but Harvey circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Charles tries to clinch up but Harvey circles away and keeps his distance.

Harvey really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Harvey keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Charles's efforts to push away.
Charles is trying to pull guard but Harvey turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Harvey has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Charles has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Harvey uses from the top position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Charles has control of Harvey's left arm, preventing Harvey from doing any damage.
Charles bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Harvey's guard.

Charles thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Charles tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Harvey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Charles will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Harvey counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Charles shoots in but no luck this time.
Harvey keeps the fight on the outside.
Charles shoots in but Harvey avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Charles takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Charles drags the fight down to the ground.

Charles is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Charles lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Harvey!

Charles looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Charles is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Harvey to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Harvey shrugs it off.

Charles pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Harvey knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Charles on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Harvey tries to lock up and control but Charles gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

John Charles showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Harvey counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Harvey throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Charles shoots in for a takedown but Harvey shows good takedown defense.

Charles takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Charles has closed the distance and engaged Harvey in a clinch.

Charles has hold of one of Harvey's legs. Harvey is fighting the takedown attempt but Charles gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Charles tries to free his leg and advance position but Harvey is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Harvey ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Charles moves away.
Charles tries to close the distance and clinch up but Harvey swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Charles fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Harvey manages to avoid it.
Charles is trying hard to land a takedown here. Harvey sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Charles tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Charles changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Harvey looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

John Charles comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Charles has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
