Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Benzi Kato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dominic Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kato tries to clinch up.
Kato dives in and grabs Nelson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Nelson pushes down on Kato's head and hops out.
Nelson shoots in but Kato avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Nelson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Kato is looking to control Nelson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kato avoid being mounted?
Kato wants to get back to full guard.

Nelson gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Kato changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nelson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Nelson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kato looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Kato is working for a submission of some sort.

Nelson looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kato is looking for submissions but instead, Nelson has regained full guard.
Kato postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Nelson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kato.
Kato trying to control but Nelson is working from the bottom.
Nelson is adopting a defensive guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kato is looking to stand up but Nelson won't let him.
Kato trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Benzi Kato has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Kato fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nelson shoots in for a takedown but Kato shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Kato closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nelson did well to prevent Kato getting side control.
Kato is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kato prevents Nelson from improving his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kato seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Nelson wants to control but Kato is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Nelson is trying to stand back up but Kato is controlling him
Nelson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kato is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kato stalling.
Kato is looking to stall here but Nelson recovers full guard.

Nelson is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Kato rolls with it to try and escape but Nelson cranks on the arm and Kato is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dominic Nelson!
