PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dean Sutherland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Welsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sutherland's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Offspring - All i Want. Rick Welsh told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dean Sutherland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rick Welsh!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Sutherland misses

and Welsh counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Welsh is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sutherland defends it well.

Welsh is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sutherland doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Welsh.

Sutherland throws a lazy right hand but Welsh sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Welsh looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Welsh stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sutherland swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Welsh is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Welsh throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sutherland's waist but Sutherland gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Welsh off to one side.

Sutherland swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Welsh.
Welsh on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Sutherland fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Welsh.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Welsh on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Welsh takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and Sutherland makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Sutherland is looking to wear down Welsh with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Welsh closes the distance but Sutherland moves to the side
and Sutherland counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Welsh has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Welsh there as he acknowledges the shot.

Welsh shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sutherland jabs Welsh right on the nose. Welsh blinks but takes it well.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sutherland. Welsh does a little dance to reset his feet.
Welsh throws a lazy head kick
and Sutherland makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Welsh really felt that one!
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Sutherland throws a body punch but Welsh moves out of range.

Sutherland feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Welsh sprawling to the canvas! Welsh rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Sutherland finish him?!


Welsh is rocked!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Sutherland lands a big right hand that sends Welsh crashing to the mat! Sutherland stays standing though and waves Welsh back to his feet!

And that's the end of the fight!
Dean Sutherland showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Sutherland has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
