Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mjr Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Regan King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mjr Ruiz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mjr Ruiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Regan King!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King throws a head kick but Ruiz moves out of range.
Ruiz shoots for a takedown but King saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
King misses with a head kick.
Regan King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King scores with a head kick.
King throws a leg kick which misses Ruiz's front leg but catches the back leg as Ruiz tries to avoid it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ruiz.
King misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ruiz doesn't manage to clinch there - King circles away.
King dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Ruiz. That did some damage!

Ruiz wants to pass the guard but King is defending well.
Ruiz takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
King chopping away at his opponent's legs.
King swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
King tries to work over Ruiz's front leg with a kick but Ruiz checks it.
King throws a head kick that Ruiz semi-blocks.
King tries a head kick but it misses.

Ruiz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for King!
King looks winded!

Ruiz is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but King is surviving well by controlling Ruiz's body position as best he can.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ruiz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
King is looking to improve his position but Ruiz isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ruiz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mjr Ruiz will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Ruiz uses good head movement to avoid the hook from King.
Ruiz tries for a takedown but King sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
King scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Ruiz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with King but King pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ruiz tries to score a power double leg takedown but King sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ruiz somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mjr Ruiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ruiz shoots in for a takedown but King shows good takedown defense.
King wants to clinch up but Ruiz keeps it at a distance.
King lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

King clinches up with Ruiz and pushes him back against the cage.

Ruiz tries to stall but King uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
King is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Ruiz is defending well for now.
King misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ruiz.
Ruiz lands a hook to the side of the head.
Ruiz on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
King tries to land knees in the clinch but Ruiz avoids the damage to the body.
King pushes off an throws an elbow but Ruiz leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Ruiz has King pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ruiz pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending King tumbling to the mat - Ruiz dives into King's guard.

Ruiz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Ruiz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mjr Ruiz just wasn't active enough.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ruiz is defended easily by King.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close second round but Regan King will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Ruiz looks for a takedown but King sprawls well.
King shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
King throws a front kick that sends Ruiz stumbling back into the cage.
King wants to clinch up but Ruiz keeps it at a distance.
King throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
King throws a leg kick but Ruiz moved away.
Ruiz takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Ruiz tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

King connects with a solid leg kick.
King throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Ruiz.
King takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
King moves to clinch but Ruiz breaks away

and Ruiz counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for King!

King tries to improve his position but Ruiz has taken his back! Ruiz has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will King tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Ruiz pushes King away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mjr Ruiz!
