PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Spyros Niras (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Spyros Niras!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Jones!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Dean Styles and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Niras changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Niras manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Niras ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Niras is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jones sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Niras gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Jones tries a body shot but Niras blocks it.

Jones gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Niras regains guard.
Jones prevents Niras from getting back to his feet.
Niras really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Jones is fighting to break Niras's control of his arms but Niras is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Spyros Niras just wasn't active enough.
Niras shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jones as he avoids it easily.

Niras moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.

Niras throws a series of punches but Jones avoids them all with ease.
Niras lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
James Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Niras shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Niras takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Niras tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Niras dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Niras's head and hops out.
Niras is breathing heavily.
Niras tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Jones throws a right and a left that Niras avoids nicely.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Niras is defended easily by Jones.

and Jones counters with a left and a right that stings Niras.

Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Niras circles away quickly and effectively.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Niras.
Jones connects with a body shot that sends Niras's belly button to the back.

Jones drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jones connects with a couple of short punches.

Jones lands a couple of digs.

Jones stands up from Niras's guard - Jones perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jones lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Jones is nestled in close to Niras, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Niras is looking to improve his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jones lands a nice short elbow.
Jones takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Jones drops an elbow to the side of Niras's head.

Jones landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Jones lands with a punch from half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones tries to pass the half guard into mount. Niras knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Jones is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Niras. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

James Jones dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Niras is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jones sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Jones lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Niras dodges the punch combination from Jones.
Jones changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Jones counters with a one-two to the body.

Niras has his takedown stuffed
and Jones counters with a left to the body.
Oh Niras is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jones connects with a combination that backs up Niras into the cage. Jones lands a flurry of punches that gets past Niras's guard. Niras is down and the referee has seen enough. It is all over! Jones bursts into tears - this win obviously means a huge amount to him.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Jones!
A very excited looking James Jones rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
