PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Matthews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trequan Adam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matthews is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Matthews!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trequan Adam!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Bruno Lombardi and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthews misses with a straight left.
Matthews is breathing heavily.

Adam clinches.
Adam has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Matthews avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Adam tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Adam breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Adam is trying hard to land a takedown here. Matthews sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Jason Matthews has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Trequan Adam.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Trequan Adam hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Adam dives in and grabs Matthews's left leg, looking for a takedown. Matthews pushes down on Adam's head and hops out.
Adam displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Matthews throws out the jab.

Adam shoots in looking for a takedown. Matthews tries to sprawl out of it but Adam keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Matthews manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Adam closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Trequan Adam.

Matthews managing to block the knees to the body from Adam.
Adam is looking to take this one to the mat.

Adam breaks from the clinch.
Adam dives in and grabs Matthews's left leg, looking for a takedown. Matthews pushes down on Adam's head and hops out.
Adam shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Matthews really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The ground and pound from Adam seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Adam decides to stand up, so the ref orders Matthews to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Trequan Adam dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Matthews stuffs the takedown attempt from Adam. Adam gets slowly back to his feet.

Adam closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Matthews to the mat! Matthews manages to get full guard.

Adam stands up and waves to Matthews to follow him.
Adam throws out a leg kick but Matthews moves out of range and Adam only half commits.

Adam drives through with a takedown into Matthews's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Adam manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Matthews on his heels. He'll look to pass Matthews's guard now, I'm sure.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Adam avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Trequan Adam showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Matthews's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Adam has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Matthews looks to throw the jab but Adam is out of range.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Adam bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Matthews on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Matthews tries to get out of the position.

Adam fails with the takedown.
Adam ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Matthews moves away.
Adam shoots for a takedown but Matthews saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Matthews catches Adam with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Adam throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Matthews.
Adam shoots in looking for a takedown but Matthews manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Adam's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Matthews pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Adam back to the cage. Matthews follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nice uppercut lands for Matthews. That snapped Adam's head back.
Trequan Adam is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Adam has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
