PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fabio Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jens Weber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fabio Gomes looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fabio Gomes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jens Weber!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomes throws a hook but Weber avoids it easily.
Weber tries to land a leg kick but Gomes saw it coming and moves away.
Gomes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Weber swivels and escapes.
Weber fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Gomes doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Weber counters with a good low kick that Gomes was not able to check.
Gomes stuffs the takedown attempt from Weber. Weber gets slowly back to his feet.
Weber lands a leg kick that knocks Gomes off balance momentarily.
The fighters circle momentarily. Weber darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Weber. Gomes shrugs it off though.
Gomes is breathing heavily.

Weber closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gomes's guard.
Weber keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gomes's head.

Gomes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Weber connects with a nice short shot to Gomes's temple.
Weber is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Weber looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gomes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gomes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Weber on the ground.
Still in half guard, Weber seems content to control.
It looks like Weber might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Weber has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Weber looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Weber can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gomes is looking to escape.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Weber works to advance to full mount. Gomes defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Gomes looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Weber! Submission of the night perhaps?
