The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alves throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Helms was covering up waiting for the punch and Alves finishes the takedown easily into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Alves looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Helms is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Alves is controlling him.
Alves trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Alves missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Helms preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Alves controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ed Alves wasn't active enough on the ground.
Alves looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Helms lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Helms.
Helms comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Alves takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Alves looks for a takedown but Helms sprawls well.

Helms displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Alves.

Helms cracks Alves with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Helms has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Alves to stand back up!

Helms fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

The fighters circle momentarily. Helms darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Helms scores with a jab to the body.

Helms drops Alves with a beautiful combination! Alves stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Helms is looking for the KO!
Alves is still on wobbly legs! Can Helms finish him?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Helms cracks a nice hook into Alves's ribs.
Helms lands a nice shot to the body.
Nice uppercut lands for Helms. That snapped Alves's head back.
Helms drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Alves's head, knocking him out cold! Helms is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.
