PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rich Franklin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Dorian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Franklin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Dorian!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Franklin forces Dorian back against the cage and clinches.
Franklin wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Dorian has him pressed against the cage.

Dorian manages to pull guard.

Dorian has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Franklin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Franklin wants to stand but Dorian is controlling his posture from full guard.

Dorian is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Franklin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dorian on the ground.
Dorian keeping moving, preventing Franklin from controlling successfully.
Franklin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Dorian looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Dorian working for a triangle but Franklin defends it easily.

Franklin throwing strikes but missing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dorian looking for a sweep. Not yet Dorian, not yet.

Dorian working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Franklin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Franklin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Franklin lands a couple of elbows.
Franklin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Dorian looking for a guillotine here but Franklin defends easily.
Dorian looks gassed!
Dorian bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Franklin's guard.

Dorian avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dorian slips nicely into half guard.
Dorian looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Franklin looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dorian wants to pass to mount but Franklin is defending the position.
Dorian prevents Franklin from standing back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dorian tries to pass to full mount but Franklin defends it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
An inside leg kick from Franklin misses.
Dorian avoids a punch combination nicely.
Dorian keeps the fight on the outside.
Franklin tries to bum rush Dorian with a series of wild strikes but Dorian uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dorian has a takedown stuffed.
Nice straight punches there by Franklin. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Franklin.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dorian avoids the head kick by Franklin.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Franklin.
Dorian tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Franklin swivels and escapes.
A right-left combo lands from Franklin.
Dorian slips a jab and a cross from Franklin.
A big right from Franklin misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Franklin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Franklin lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Dorian dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Franklin fails to land with a series of punches.
A punch combination from Franklin misses.
Dorian displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Franklin throws out the jab.
Franklin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Franklin has his takedown stuffed

and Dorian counters with a shoot takedown. Franklin fights it but they end up in guard.
Dorian forces his way into half guard.
Franklin wants to improve his position but Dorian is controlling well.

Dorian wants to work for an arm triangle but Franklin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Dorian is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Franklin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dorian.

Franklin is defending against the submission attempts here by Dorian.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Franklin wants to get back to full guard.
Franklin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Franklin tries to get out of the position.

Dorian is trying to work for a kimura but Franklin is defending well.
Franklin is trying to stand up here but Dorian is controlling him well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dorian is working for a submission of some sort.
Franklin is in trouble now - Dorian has advanced to mount!

Dorian jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Franklin manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Franklin is looking to reverse the position.

Dorian has hold of Franklin's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Franklin seems comfortable defending it but Dorian has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Franklin is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Franklin is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Dorian couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Dorian!
