Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eric Hasslock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, BJ Penn!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hasslock throws a head kick but Penn moves out of range.
Penn misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hasslock is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hasslock fails with an attempt to clinch.
Penn swats away the attempt to clinch by Hasslock.
A head kick misses from Hasslock.

Penn gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Penn wants to get back to striking at distance but Hasslock won't allow it.
Penn tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hasslock smiles and moves away.

Penn bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn just content to control the position.

Penn decides to stand up, so the ref orders Hasslock to his feet.
Hasslock tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Penn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Penn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Penn is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Penn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Penn is looking to work some ground and pound but Hasslock has wrist control.
Penn looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Penn content to stall in guard here.
Hasslock working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Penn.
Penn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Penn pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hasslock is keeping the position for now.
Penn wants to control from the top but Hasslock keeps moving.
Penn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

BJ Penn dominated that round.
That's time! Hasslock's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Penn moves into range and clinches up with Hasslock.
Hasslock throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Hasslock lands a nice elbow.
Hasslock tries to land a knee to the head but Penn blocks with his arms.
Penn wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Penn wants to break free but Hasslock has control.
Penn is trying to break the clinch but Hasslock has him pressed against the cage.
Penn goes for a takedown attempt but Hasslock pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Eric Hasslock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Penn counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Penn trying to control but Hasslock is working from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Penn accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Penn is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Penn stands up and waves to Hasslock to follow him.
Penn is breathing heavily.

Penn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
An elbow from Penn crashes against the mat.
Hasslock parries the strikes from Penn easily there. Penn is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hasslock to escape.

Penn fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Penn tries to move into full mount but can't pass Hasslock's legs.
Hasslock on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Penn tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Hasslock is not content to let Penn control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hasslock closes the distance looking to clinch

and Penn holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hasslock lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Penn takes an elbow to the temple.
Hasslock lands an elbow that stopped Penn in his tracks for a moment.
Hasslock blocks an elbow strike from Penn.
A knee to the head by Hasslock.
Hasslock tries a knee to the head but Penn blocks it.
Stalling in the clinch from Penn.
Hasslock tries to land a knee to the head but Penn blocks with his arms.

Hasslock lands a nice elbow.

Penn wants to break the clinch but can't.

Hasslock lands an elbow just above Penn 's eye.
Hasslock with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Penn goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hasslock prevents it.
Eric Hasslock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of BJ Penn.
Penn fails to pull guard.
Hasslock throws a knee to the head but misses.

Hasslock lands a knee to the head.
Hasslock unloads a knee to the mid-section. Penn lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

BJ Penn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Penn throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Hasslock on the side of the head.
Nice sprawl there from Hasslock as Penn shoots in.

BJ Penn has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hasslock knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Penn on the ground.
Hasslock is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Penn has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Hasslock is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Penn is controlling him well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Despite being in the dominant position, BJ Penn just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hasslock tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Penn counters with a single leg into guard. Hasslock didn't expect that.
Penn forces his way into half guard.
Penn thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hasslock's head.
Eric Hasslock has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Penn tries to pass to full mount but Hasslock defends it.

Hasslock is trying to stand back up but Penn is controlling him

BJ Penn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Penn winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
