The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mizugaki was covering up waiting for the punch and Silva finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Silva drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mizugaki looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mizugaki looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mizugaki!

The ground and pound from Mizugaki seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Silva tries to improve position but can't.

Silva is refusing to be controlled, as Mizugaki sits in half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mizugaki is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Silva is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

It looks like Renato Silva has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Takanori Mizugaki was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
