PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Stout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rodrigo Souza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steven Stout!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stout stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stout wants it to stay on the feet.

Stout gets caught napping as Souza dives in and scores a takedown. Stout manages to retain guard.

Souza drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Souza jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Souza drops back looking for a leg! Stout is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stout manages to kick Souza off! Souza jumps back into Stout's guard.

Souza thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Souza is breathing heavily.

Stout working for a triangle but Souza defends it easily.

Souza avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stout can do anything to dispel that myth.

Souza is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Stout really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Souza. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Stout looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Souza drops back looking for a leg! Stout is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stout manages to kick Souza off! Souza jumps back into Stout's guard.

Souza is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Souza postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Stout is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Souza, into his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Souza is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Souza wants a takedown but no success here.
Stout is trying to pull guard but Souza has him pressed against the cage.
Stout gets underhooks to prevent Souza's takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodrigo Souza. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stout is pressed up against the cage. Souza has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Stout down to the mat. Stout avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Stout tries to clinch there but Souza circles away.

Stout shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Souza's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stout drops back looking for a leg! Souza is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Souza manages to kick Stout off! Stout jumps back into Souza's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stout tries to stand but Souza is controlling from the bottom.
Stout won't allow Souza to get back to his feet.

Stout gets to his feet - Souza follows without any prompting.
Stout tries to clinch up but Souza circles away and keeps his distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Souza fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Stout throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Souza's waist but Souza gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stout off to one side.
Souza shoots in but no luck this time.
Stout fails with an attempt to clinch.
Souza swats away the attempt to clinch by Stout.
Stout tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Souza paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Stout shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Souza but Souza pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Stout tries to clinch there but Souza circles away.

Souza fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stout sprawls well initially but Souza persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Souza is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stout defends it well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Souza is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stout doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Souza.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Souza seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Stout is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Rodrigo Souza!
