The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Thiago Cunha and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zero looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Gardens is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Gardens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gardens wants to stand up but Zero is controlling him.
Gardens is looking for a triangle but Zero pushes his legs off easily.
Zero trying to control the position from guard on top but Gardens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gardens has his foot on Zero's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Zero works his way back into a safe position though.
Gardens tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Zero shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gardens but Gardens pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zero passes the guard and advances to mount!
