Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabiano Martins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabricio Gracie! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Luis Engracia and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A nice combination there by Martins.
Martins gets the takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Gracie sneaks back into half guard. Gracie looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Gracie looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Gracie looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Gracie actively working from the bottom here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gracie moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Martins lands a couple of elbows. Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martins lands a couple of digs. Martins trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Martins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground. Martins throws a big elbow that misses. Martins has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Martins defends well. Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Martins can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Martins avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gracie looks gassed! Gracie has a closed guard, preventing Martins from standing up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Martins stacks Gracie on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Martins! Gracie tries to bench press Martins off him but Martins keeps the position. Martins landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gracie manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Martins on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Martins tries to get out of the position. Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Martins defends it well. Martins is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Martins defends the submission attempt. Martins trying to control here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Martins is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
