PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Markus Wolf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Box (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Markus Wolf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mr Box!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wolf is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Wolf thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Box if he has to take too many more of those.

Box gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Box holds on and takes a little breather.
Box keeping moving, preventing Wolf from controlling successfully.
Box is pulling down on Wolf's head to control his posture.
Box is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Wolf trying to control here.
Box is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wolf is trying to stand back up but Box is controlling him
Box looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wolf scores with a nice right hand.
Wolf fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Wolf gets caught flat footed, as Box shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Box is pushing down on Wolf's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wolf is fighting to maintain full guard but Box has managed to sneak the leg through.
Wolf tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Box working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Box sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Box's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Box seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Wolf moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Box works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Wolf knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Box on the ground.
Box seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
It looks like Box might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Let's hope that Box has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Wolf could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Mr Box has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Wolf shoots and misses

and Box counters with a shoot takedown. Wolf fights it but they end up in guard.
Wolf is breathing heavily.
Box slips nicely into half guard.
Box slows the pace down in half guard.

Box works his way into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee asks Box politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Box prefers to stall for the moment though.
Box advances to mount.
Box controlling the position easily from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Wolf tries to reverse the position but Box maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Box dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Box wants to pass the guard but Wolf is keeping the position.
Box not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Box with shots to the head and body - Wolf looks very uncomfortable down there.
Box tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Wolf tries to hold on but Box pushes him away.
Box controlling his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mr Box was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Box takes a kick to the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wolf shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Box but Box pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Wolf shoots in for a takedown but Box shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Wolf enables Box to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Wolf manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Box is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mr Box hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Wolf stuffs the takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Box shoots for a takedown but Wolf saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Box shoots in but no luck this time.
Markus Wolf has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mr Box.
Wolf fails with a takedown attempt.

Box shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Box is landing with some decent strikes but Wolf is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Box lands a big shot there that rocks Wolf but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Box landing strikes from the mount and Wolf is in trouble!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Box showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Box looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mr Box has got the better of the ground game so far.

Wolf is trying to get back to full guard.
Box working over Wolf with some ground and pound. Wolf looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Box passes to side control.
Box working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Box is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Wolf will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Wolf is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Box has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Box in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Box scores with a couple of short elbows.


It looks like Markus Wolf has been cut.
Box looks up at the clock and then as Wolf takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Box smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Box has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Wolf!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wolf tries to lock up and control but Box gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mr Box wasn't active enough on the ground.
Wolf will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Box shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Box was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Box tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Wolf tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Box has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Box tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Markus Wolf has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Box fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

And that's the end of the fight!
Mr Box comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Box winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
