Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodriguez comes to the cage accompanied by disturbed- pain redefined. Connor has chosen Disturbed - Warrior as his entrance music. Carlos Rodriguez had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carlos Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Connor!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rodriguez forces Connor back against the cage and clinches.
Rodriguez is trying to pull guard but Connor turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Rodriguez has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Connor regains guard immediately.
Rodriguez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Connor scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Rodriguez shoots in for a double leg but Connor sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Connor shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rodriguez as he jumps to the side.

Connor moves out of range of the body kick from Rodriguez.

Connor takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Rodriguez swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Rodriguez instigates a clinch.
Rodriguez blocks an elbow strike.
Rodriguez has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Rodriguez fails to pull guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Connor is looking to take a break and control but Rodriguez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Connor is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Rodriguez is defending well.

Rodriguez turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rodriguez manages to end up in side control.
Connor manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Connor tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rodriguez swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Rodriguez clinches up with Connor and pushes him back against the cage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rodriguez jumps guard but Connor stands there with Rodriguez around his waist. Rodriguez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rodriguez is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Connor to keep the fight standing.

Connor has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rodriguez uses from the top position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rodriguez passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Connor!

Rodriguez lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Connor is trying to escape the mount.
Connor is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Rodriguez gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

and Rodriguez counters with a shoot takedown. Connor fights it but they end up in guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rodriguez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Connor manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Connor throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

That was a close round but Carlos Rodriguez did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Rodriguez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Connor tries to clinch up but Rodriguez circles away and keeps his distance.
Connor shoots for a double leg takedown but Rodriguez sprawls well. He's pushed Connor's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Connor jumps guard and drags Rodriguez to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Connor misses with a takedown attempt - Rodriguez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Connor is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted.

Connor is bucking up trying to escape but Rodriguez cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Rodriguez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Connor to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Connor shrugs it off.

Rodriguez is really struggling to control Connor but he's trying to hold on to the position.
