PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Takashi Yamamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Jamess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Takashi Yamamoto has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Takashi Yamamoto seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Takashi Yamamoto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Danny Jamess!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Dmitry Maklakov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jamess closes the distance and clinches up with Yamamoto, looking for a takedown. Jamess pushes Yamamoto against the cage but Yamamoto circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jamess misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Yamamoto counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Danny Jamess has been cut.
Nice takedown defense from Yamamoto. No joy for Jamess on that attempt.

Jamess takes the fight into the clinch.
Yamamoto fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jamess takes an elbow to the temple.

Yamamoto manages to break the clinch.

Jamess changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Yamamoto fights it off and pushes away nicely.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Yamamoto has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jamess uses from the top position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Yamamoto seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jamess for as long as he can get away with.

Yamamoto can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jamess is looking to escape.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Yamamoto takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Jamess is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

That's time! Yamamoto's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Jamess misses with a takedown attempt - Yamamoto sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Jamess ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Yamamoto moves away.

Jamess has closed the distance and engaged Yamamoto in a clinch.

Yamamoto pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Jamess takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Jamess is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jamess will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Takashi Yamamoto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danny Jamess.
Jamess is breathing heavily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jamess tries to break free but Yamamoto pushes him back against the cage.

Jamess leaves Yamamoto with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jamess shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Yamamoto as he jumps to the side.
Jamess fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Yamamoto or perhaps it was just good defense by Jamess which made him look bad.
Yamamoto throws a combination. Jamess tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Jamess closes the distance and clinches.
Jamess misses with a knee strike.
Jamess is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Yamamoto ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Yamamoto no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Jamess throws an elbow that misses. Yamamoto uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jamess's guard. Nice move by Yamamoto!
Yamamoto is stalling in the full guard.
Yamamoto has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jamess jumps guard but Yamamoto turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Yamamoto breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yamamoto's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jamess changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yamamoto tries to avoid it but Jamess manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yamamoto to the ground. Yamamoto escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Jamess is trying to drag Yamamoto to the mat but Yamamoto just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Danny Jamess seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yamamoto will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Yamamoto has Jamess pressed against the cage, preventing Jamess from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Yamamoto manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jamess manages to get himself to full guard.

Jamess takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jamess drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Jamess throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Yamamoto works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

I would just about give that final round to Danny Jamess.
Well Yamamoto has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Takashi Yamamoto decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
