PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brice Bailey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kev Embo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brice Bailey!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kev Embo!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bailey shoots in and drives through. Embo sprawls well.
Bailey fails with the takedown
and Embo counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Embo lands a head shot.
Bailey closes the distance looking to clinch

and Embo counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Embo controlling the action here.
Embo is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Bailey!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Embo is trying to take his opponent's back.

It looks like Embo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Embo swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Bailey is now in Embo's guard. A big mistake from Embo there, giving up the dominant position!

Embo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bailey defends it easily.

Bailey trying to control but Embo is working from the bottom.
Bailey is fighting to break Embo's control of his arms but Embo is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Bailey loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Embo is adopting a defensive guard.
Bailey throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Embo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Embo pulls Bailey in close to prevent any damage.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Embo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Still in half guard, Embo seems content to control.
Embo uses his free foot to push down on Bailey's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bailey.

Embo throwing strikes here but Bailey is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bailey tries to lock up and control but Embo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Bailey is wriggling around trying to escape.
Embo trying to control but Bailey is having none of it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Embo is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Bailey has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kev Embo dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Bailey fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bailey looks for a takedown but Embo sprawls well.
Bailey tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Embo paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Embo scores a takedown into full mount!
Embo trying to control but Bailey is having none of it.
Bailey keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Embo throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Bailey because Embo loaded up on that one.
Bailey wants to control but Embo is having none of it.

Embo throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Bailey is desperately trying to improve his position but Embo has a good base and remains in mount.

Embo lands a big shot there that rocks Bailey but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Bailey tries to lock up and control but Embo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Embo jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Bailey manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Embo wants to control for a moment but Bailey uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Kev Embo has got the better of the ground game so far.

Embo seems to be working for a kimura but Bailey defends the submission attempt.
Embo passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Embo moves to the back.

Embo tightening his grip on Bailey, looking for the choke.
Embo controlling the position well here. Bailey rolled but Embo kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Embo looking to break Bailey's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Bailey remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Embo will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kev Embo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Bailey's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Embo shoots in but no luck this time.
Bailey doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Embo to counter with a crisp jab.

Embo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Bailey is trying to control Embo's posture but Embo avoids it.

Embo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Embo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Embo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bailey is not content to let Embo control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Bailey's face as Embo controls the position.
Embo trying to control the action but Bailey is working from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kev Embo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Embo throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Bailey swinging wildly here.

Embo moves into the clinch.

Bailey escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bailey uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Embo.
Bailey fails to land with a series of punches.
Bailey shoots in for a double leg but Embo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Embo fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Bailey shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Embo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brice Bailey. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bailey changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Embo fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Brice Bailey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Bailey is staying active underneath Embo, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Brice Bailey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kev Embo is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Embo works his way into full mount!

Kev Embo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Embo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Kev Embo very nearly forgot to thank Valhalla Q160 Nutrition amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
