PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Paul Gannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Sun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Gannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Sun!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Andrew Berry and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gannon throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gannon looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Sun keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Gannon closes the distance and clinches.
Sun wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gannon has him pressed against the cage.
Sun swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Gannon is trying to maintain a safe position but Sun gets an underhook and turns Gannon into the cage.
Sun has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gannon is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Sun tries to score a body lock takedown but Gannon shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Gannon breaks from the clinch.
Gannon shoots for a double leg takedown but Sun sprawls well. He's pushed Gannon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Gannon could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gannon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sun will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Horrible takedown by Sun or perhaps it was just good defense by Gannon which made him look bad.

Sun shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gannon as he jumps to the side.

Sun shoots in looking for a takedown. Gannon tries to sprawl out of it but Sun keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gannon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Sun.
Sun lands a head kick. Gannon smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Sun throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gannon's waist but Gannon gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sun off to one side.
A punch combination from Gannon misses.
Sun jabbing away but nothing is landing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Gannon clinches up against the cage.

Gannon has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Sun is trying to keep an underhook but Gannon manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Gannon takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Sun trying to control here.
Sun is not content to let Gannon control the position.
Sun wants to get back to full guard.
Sun makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sun.
Gannon wants to control from the top but Sun keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sun can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sun doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Sun looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sun is trying to keep Gannon in close.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sun misses with a double jab

and Gannon counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gannon.
Sun is trying to break free.
Gannon prevents the takedown attempt.
Sun wants to stall.
Sun wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Sun wants to break free but Gannon has control.

Gannon manages to pull guard.
Gannon looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gannon wants to sweep but no luck.
Gannon wants to get back to his feet but Sun is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sun tries to stand but Gannon is controlling from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gannon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sun thows a body kick. Gannon tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Gannon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sun wants to clinch.

Sun closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Gannon drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sun pulls his leg out and moves away.
Gannon fails with an attempt to clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gannon tries for a takedown but Sun sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Gannon counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Sun is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gannon stands up over Sun, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gannon is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sun is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Sun has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Gannon has passed into side control.

Gannon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sun, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sun is looking to regain half guard here but Gannon keeps moving and retains side control.
Gannon landing strikes.

Gannon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Sun gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Sun pushes Gannon off looking to stand but Gannon dives back in and keeps control.

Gannon is looking to take a break and control but Sun is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gannon is thwarting Sun's attempts to control the position.
Sun wants to get back to his feet.
Sun trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Gannon manages to pass to mount!
Sun tries to lock up and control but Gannon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sun is working to get back to half guard.
Sun is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Sun bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Sun scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Sun wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gannon keeps working.

Sun is trying to work for a kimura but Gannon is defending well.

Gannon kicks Sun off and gets back to his feet.
Gannon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sun as he jumps to the side.
Sun doesn't manage to clinch there - Gannon circles away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sun with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Sun shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gannon but Gannon pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sun moves in looking to clinch but Gannon pushes him off.
Sun shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gannon as he avoids it easily.
Sun is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sun shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sun misses with a combination

and Gannon counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Gannon wants to stand but Sun has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Gannon is looking to advance position but Sun won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Gannon showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gannon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
