Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Above Kual (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kual.

Kual scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Smith is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Kual is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Smith doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kual.

Kual is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kual decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Smith looks to land a left hand but Kual moved out of range nicely.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

and Kual counters with a single leg into guard. Smith didn't expect that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kual gets to his feet - Smith follows without any prompting.

Smith throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kual sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kual uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Smith.

Kual closes the distance and clinches.

Kual throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Smiths head.
Smith swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Kual escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Kual has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.
Kual lands a body shot in the clinch.
Smith is looking to control Kual's arms but Kual gets an underhook and turns him. Now Smith has his back to the cage.
Smith throws a punch but it's blocked by Kual.

Kual lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Smith or not.

Kual's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kual closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kual lands in his opponent's guard.

Kual is sitting in close to Smith's body. Smith has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Kual is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Kual is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Smith.
