PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Neho Kipei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yugi Kantana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Neho Kipei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yugi Kantana!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kantana fails to land the takedown.
Kantana fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kantana throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kantana stuffs the takedown attempt from Kipei. Kipei gets slowly back to his feet.

Kipei looking to score a takedown here. Kantana is defending well but Kipei drives through and ends up in Kantana's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kipei accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kipei advances to half guard.
Kantana is trying to get back to full guard.
Kipei tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kantana knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Kantana works his way to full guard. Good work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kipei postures up and lands a big shot to Kantana's brow.
Kantana keeping moving, preventing Kipei from controlling successfully.
Kipei has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kantana is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Kantana is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Kipei pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Neho Kipei has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yugi Kantana.

Kipei gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Kantana tries to roll over but Kipei keeps him under control.
Kipei lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Kantana makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kantana.
Kantana is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kipei throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kantana works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Kipei slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Kipei with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kipei trying to control but Kantana is working from the bottom.
Kipei throws an elbow that misses. Kantana uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kipei's guard. Nice move by Kantana!
Kantana advances position into side control!
Kantana wants to control but Kipei is keeping him busy.
Kantana might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kipei kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kantana tries to advance to mount but Kipei denies him.

Kantana is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kipei knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kantana is trying to ground and pound but Kipei uses the momentary lack of control by Kantana to regain half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kipei is trying to stand.

Kipei kicks Kantana off and gets back to his feet.
Kipei tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kantana sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kipei somewhat.

Kipei shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kipei showed some decent athleticism there.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kipei leaves Kantana with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kantana is defended easily by Kipei.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neho Kipei dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Kantana stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kantana wants it to stay on the feet.

Kipei shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Kantana is looking to improve his position.
Kantana keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kipei working the head and body with strikes.
Kipei takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Kipei sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kantana defending well though.
Kipei throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kantana is trying to stand.
Kantana regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kipei.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Kipei slips nicely into half guard.
Kipei looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kantana with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kantana is looking to escape.
Kipei lands with a punch from half guard.


Kantana is rocked!
Kipei slips a nice elbow through Kantana's hands, connecting with Kantana's forehead.
Kantana is still in real trouble! Can Kipei finish him?
Kipei has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kantana is breathing heavily.
Whack. That's a big, big shot from Kipei! Kantana is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Neho Kipei!
Neho Kipei opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
