The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marks feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
McConomy looking for a sweep. Not yet McConomy, not yet.

Marks avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

McConomy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Marks gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Marks knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McConomy on the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Marks tries to free his leg and advance position but McConomy is retaining full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now McConomy is on top in guard.
Marks on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Marks tries to get out of the position.
McConomy trying to control the position from guard on top but Marks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Marks looking for a sweep. Not yet Marks, not yet.
McConomy wants to stand but Marks is controlling his posture from full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McConomy passes Marks's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McConomy is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

McConomy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Marks is trying to get back to full guard.

McConomy is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Marks is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
