Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Luis Chalas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Vangaard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). David Vangaard has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luis Chalas!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Vangaard!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vangaard fails with a takedown attempt.

Chalas closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Vangaard to the mat! Vangaard manages to get full guard.

Chalas gets to his feet - Vangaard follows without any prompting.
Chalas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Chalas drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chalas wanted to stand there but Vangaard had control of the position.
Vangaard is trying to keep Chalas in close.
Vangaard has Chalas pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Chalas has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Vangaard is proving hard to escape from.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. David Vangaard wasn't active enough on the ground.
Vangaard shoots in for a double leg but Chalas sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Chalas leaves Vangaard with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Vangaard shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Chalas is refusing to be controlled, as Vangaard sits in half guard.
Chalas wants to stand back up but Vangaard manages to pass into side control.
Chalas is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Vangaard asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Chalas bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Vangaard misses with a takedown attempt - Chalas sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chalas decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Chalas tries to clinch there but Vangaard circles away.

Chalas closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Vangaard quickly recovers to half guard.
Chalas wants to stand but Vangaard has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Vangaard controlling the position well.
Chalas tries to stand but can't do so whilst Vangaard controls his leg.
Chalas trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Vangaard trying to hold on to Chalas's head to control him but Chalas postures up.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vangaard moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Vangaard wants to stand and escape but Chalas is having none of it.

Chalas stands and steps away. Vangaard gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Chalas slaps away a takedown attempt from Vangaard, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Vangaard closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chalas did well to prevent Vangaard getting side control.
Vangaard tries to pass to full mount but Chalas defends it.
Chalas is trying to stand up here but Vangaard is controlling him well.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Chalas tries to clinch but Vangaard is having none of it.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Chalas pushes Vangaard away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Vangaard gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Vangaard wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chalas keeps working.
Vangaard might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Chalas kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Chalas is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vangaard has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Vangaard tries to control but Chalas wriggling away.

Vangaard is working for a guillotine from mount but Chalas frees his head quite easily.
Chalas wants to try and get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vangaard lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Chalas is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Vangaard thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Chalas is squirming around, avoiding Vangaard's attempts to control the action.
Vangaard scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Chalas?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Chalas wants to get back to his feet.

David Vangaard showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Vangaard throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Chalas on the side of the head.
David Vangaard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Vangaard tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chalas swivels and escapes.
Vangaard fails with a takedown attempt.
Vangaard dives in and grabs Chalas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chalas pushes down on Vangaard's head and hops out.

Vangaard seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Chalas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Chalas tries to kick Vangaard off but Vangaard keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Chalas is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Vangaard is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Chalas has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Chalas somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!

Vangaard shoots in and drives through. Chalas sprawls well.
Chalas takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

A close third round but David Vangaard just about did enough to take it.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Vangaard throws a shot from downtown. Chalas moves away and avoids it.

Chalas misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Vangaard.
Vangaard tries to bum rush Chalas with a series of wild strikes but Chalas uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
The fight stays on the outside here - Vangaard looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Vangaard shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Chalas manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Chalas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vangaard is controlling him.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Vangaard is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Chalas has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Vangaard closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Chalas's guard.
Chalas wants to stand up but Vangaard is controlling him.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.
Chalas is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Vangaard dives into side control.
Chalas is not content to let Vangaard control the position.
Vangaard throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Chalas dodges the ground and pound from Vangaard.
Chalas wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Vangaard cracks Chalas with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Vangaard wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chalas keeps working.
A lull in the action here as Vangaard stalls from top position.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Vangaard tries to move to mount but Chalas blocks the move with his legs.
Vangaard has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Chalas's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Vangaard sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Chalas squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Vangaard looking to control but Chalas is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Vangaard has control of Chalas's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Chalas regains control of the situation pretty easily.

David Vangaard seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Vangaard shoots in and bounces Chalas off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Chalas keeping moving, preventing Vangaard from controlling successfully.
David Vangaard is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Chalas scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Luis Chalas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Vangaard manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Chalas on his heels. He'll look to pass Chalas's guard now, I'm sure.

David Vangaard comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Vangaard has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
