Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Daniel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wanderlei Menezes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wanderlei Menezes is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Daniel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Menezes!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Menezes uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Daniel.
Daniel shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Menezes as he avoids it easily.
Daniel tries to clinch but Menezes moves away

and Menezes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Daniel's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Menezes is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Menezes wants to control from the top but Daniel keeps moving.

Daniel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Menezes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Daniel controls Menezes momentarily but Menezes frees himself.

Menezes pulls Daniel in close to his closed guard and prevents Daniel from doing any damage or advancing position.

Menezes wriggles free and stands up.

Menezes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Daniel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Menezes swats him away and circles back towards the center.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Daniel.

Menezes darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Daniel is letting Menezes control him for a moment.

Menezes is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Daniel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Daniel tries to improve position but can't.

Menezes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Daniel knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Menezes is staying tight to Daniel's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Daniel is not content to let Menezes control the position.
Menezes tries to advance to mount but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Menezes scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Daniel to see if he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel stuffs the takedown attempt from Menezes. Menezes gets slowly back to his feet.

You can see the frustration on Daniel's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Daniel.
Daniel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Menezes was well out of range. Poor timing from Daniel.

Daniel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Menezes on the ground.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Menezes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Wanderlei Menezes was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Menezes swats away the attempt to clinch by Daniel.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Menezes wants to work for an arm triangle but Daniel is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Menezes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Daniel is trying to control but can't.
Menezes content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Menezes moves into full mount! Daniel won't be happy about that!

Menezes gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wanderlei Menezes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Menezes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Daniel sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Menezes somewhat.

Daniel shoots for a takedown but Menezes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Menezes closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Daniel's guard.
Menezes's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Let's hope that Menezes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Menezes stands and steps away. Daniel gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Daniel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Menezes paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Menezes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Menezes takes a little break here. Daniel wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Wanderlei Menezes is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Daniel can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Menezes controls the pace.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Wanderlei Menezes wasn't active enough on the ground.
A nice inside leg kick there by Daniel. That's going to slow Menezes down.
