PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jules Avalon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Avalon has chosen Superman - Super Junior as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Anthony Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jules Avalon!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pettis clinches up against the cage.
Pettis wants to take the fight to the mat but Avalon manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Pettis blocks a body shot from Avalon.
Avalon dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Pettis wants the takedown. Avalon is fighting it off but Pettis persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Avalon's guard against the cage.
Avalon tries to strike from the bottom.
Avalon is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Pettis wants to control from the top but Avalon keeps moving.
Avalon looking to control.

Pettis drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Avalon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pettis has Avalon in his guard.
Pettis keeping full guard, as Avalon tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pettis keeping moving, preventing Avalon from controlling successfully.
Avalon postures up.
Avalon tries to free his leg and advance position but Pettis is retaining full guard.
Pettis manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Avalon tries to hold on but Pettis postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pettis swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Avalon is now in Pettis's guard. A big mistake from Pettis there, giving up the dominant position!

Avalon wants to pass the guard but Pettis is keeping the position.

Pettis looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Avalon passes into side control.
Pettis tries to improve position but can't.
Avalon advances to mount.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Avalon with shots to the head and body - Pettis looks very uncomfortable down there.
Avalon unloading with bombs!

Avalon lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Pettis hang on?

Avalon working for a guillotine from mount but Pettis is in no mood to give up.

Pettis manages to get to full guard.

Pettis rushes Avalon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Pettis wants the takedown. Avalon is fighting it off but Pettis persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Avalon's guard against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Avalon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Pettis wants to control from the top but Avalon keeps moving.
Avalon wants to control but Pettis passes easily into half guard.
Pettis stalling away here and it's allowed Avalon to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Avalon is trying to control the position but Pettis postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jules Avalon will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Pettis looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pettis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Avalon keeps working.

Pettis is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Avalon wants to control but Pettis is keeping busy.
Avalon might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Pettis kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Pettis is looking to take a break and control but Avalon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pettis trying to mount his opponent but Avalon defends it.

Jules Avalon has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Pettis checks a leg kick.
Jules Avalon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pettis moves in looking to clinch but Avalon pushes him off.

Avalon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Avalon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Pettis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Avalon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Avalon holds on and takes a little breather.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Pettis dominated that second round.
That's time! Pettis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Pettis.
Pettis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Avalon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice uppercut lands for Pettis. That snapped Avalon's head back.
The fight stays on the outside here - Avalon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jules Avalon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Pettis is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Avalon jumps guard and drags Pettis to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Avalon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Pettis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Avalon's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Avalon's back!

Pettis is persistently looking for the submission but Avalon is defending it well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Avalon trying to control the position but Pettis manages to sink in the hooks.

Pettis looking to break Avalon's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Avalon remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Pettis will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Pettis gets his hands free as Avalon looks to control.
Pettis trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Avalon is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Pettis gets his way!

Avalon just trying to survive but Pettis is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Pettis has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Avalon has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A very excited looking Anthony Pettis rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
