Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Derek Waters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Ribeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Waters comes into the arena with Hip Hop blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

17 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Gustavo Ribeiro! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Anthony Taglia and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ribeiro uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Waters.
Ribeiro looks for a takedown but Waters sprawls well. Ribeiro throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Ribeiro fails to land the takedown. Waters connects with a jab. Waters ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ribeiro moves away. Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Waters but Waters pushes him off and we're back to square one. Derek Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gustavo Ribeiro. Waters connects with a crisp jab. Waters thows a body shot but no joy. Ribeiro looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ribeiro. Ribeiro shoots in and drives through. Waters sprawls well. Waters blocks a jab. Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Ribeiro shoots in but no luck this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ribeiro throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Waters was covering up waiting for the punch and Ribeiro finishes the takedown easily into guard. Waters has Ribeiro pulled in close to control his posture. Waters's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Ribeiro controls from within his opponent's guard. Waters avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Waters keeping full guard, as Ribeiro tries to pass. Waters wants to sweep but no luck.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Waters lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ribeiro circles away quickly and effectively. Ribeiro takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Waters pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Waters just misses with a punch to the body.
Derek Waters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Waters bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Ribeiro's head. Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Waters but Waters pushes him off and we're back to square one. Nice straight punches there by Waters. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Waters. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Waters throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Ribeiro on the side of the head. Waters punishes Ribeiro's body with a nice straight punch. The fight moves into the clinch position. Ribeiro drops down looking for an ankle pick but Waters pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Waters misses the shot to the body. Waters cracks Ribeiro with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Waters is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ribeiro. Waters lands with a shot to the body. Ribeiro moves forwards but Waters connects with a nice, crisp jab. Waters lands a nice leg kick that just misses Ribeiro's sensitive parts. Ribeiro keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Waters gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ribeiro to score an easy takedown into full guard. Ribeiro trying to control but Waters is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Waters is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ribeiro wants to pass the guard but Waters is keeping the position. Ribeiro is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Gustavo Ribeiro was stalling too much, according to the referee. Ribeiro tries a head kick but it misses.

On like donkey kong! Ribeiro tries for a takedown but Waters sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Derek Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gustavo Ribeiro. Waters closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Ribeiro tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Waters just stands there and leans against the cage. Waters misses with a punch to the body.
Ribeiro jumps guard but Waters stands there with Ribeiro around his waist. Ribeiro gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round. Waters lands a hook that snaps the head of Ribeiro backwards. Ribeiro goes for a takedown in the clinch but Waters prevents it.
Ribeiro tries to pull guard but Waters forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Waters is working Ribeiro over against the cage. A right hand to the body from Waters.

Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ribeiro can't keep his opponent in guard - Waters advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Waters prevents Ribeiro from improving his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Waters decides to stand and escape the position. Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. A looping hook to the body misses from Waters. Ribeiro does a little dance to reset his feet. Ribeiro forces Waters back against the cage and clinches. Ribeiro jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Waters walks away with a smile on his face. Ribeiro gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Ribeiro tries to score a power double leg takedown but Waters sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ribeiro somewhat. A cross from Waters lands. Waters dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Waters sprawls well. Waters wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ribeiro gets slowly back to his feet. Waters works the jab nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nice shot by Waters. Ribeiro shoots in but no luck this time. Waters misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ribeiro.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Ribeiro has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Waters finds it's way round the side to connect with Ribeiro's head. Ribeiro ducks under a wild hook from Waters. Waters lunges at Ribeiro with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Ribeiro's hand. Ribeiro takes one on the button. Ribeiro fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Waters jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Waters misses with a hook. Waters clinches up with Ribeiro and pushes him back against the cage. Waters goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Waters can't find room to land a body shot as Ribeiro controls the action.

Waters clobbers Ribeiro with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Ribeiro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Ribeiro fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Waters avoids it really well and circles away. Ribeiro checks a low kick from Waters. Ribeiro closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Waters did well to prevent Ribeiro getting side control. Waters slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ribeiro with a flurry of punches that miss. Waters keeping moving, preventing Ribeiro from controlling successfully. Ribeiro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Waters swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Gustavo Ribeiro wasn't active enough on the ground. Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown but Waters shows good takedown defense. Waters throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Waters scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Ribeiro takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Waters misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Ribeiro shoots in looking for a takedown but Waters manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ribeiro's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. A chopping leg kick lands by Waters. Derek Waters is winning the standup battle so far. Waters cracks Ribeiro with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Waters drives through and clinches with Ribeiro against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight! Derek Waters showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Waters, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
