Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Chilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Ryback (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnny Ryback is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mike Chilson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny Ryback!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Micheangelo Fripello and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ryback closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ryback lands in his opponent's guard.
Chilson pulls Ryback in to control the position.

Ryback got a little sloppy there for a moment and Chilson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ryback has managed to get both his arms back between Chilson's legs - danger averted.
Chilson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Chilson is controlling Ryback's posture.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Chilson is on top in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ryback really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Chilson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ryback is trying to keep Chilson in close.

Chilson being controlled here momentarily.
Chilson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Chilson checks a leg kick.

Chilson gets the takedown into side control.
Ryback sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Chilson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ryback is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ryback is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Chilson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ryback is refusing to be controlled, as Chilson sits in half guard.
Ryback wants to control but Chilson is keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chilson decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chilson attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Chilson swats away the attempt to clinch by Ryback.
Ryback tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chilson swivels and escapes.
Chilson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ryback lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ryback enables Chilson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ryback manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Ryback is working an open guard so Chilson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Ryback looks gassed!

Chilson gets a takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chilson passes the guard and advances to mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Chilson is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Ryback on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Chilson shoots in and gets a takedown into Ryback's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ryback can do anything to dispel that myth.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ryback will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Chilson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ryback is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Chilson dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Chilson misses with a takedown
and Ryback counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ryback fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ryback misses with a lunging right hand

and Chilson counters with a takedown into side control.
Chilson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Chilson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Ryback to his feet.
Chilson avoids the head kick by Ryback.
Chilson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Chilson swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Ryback keeps the fight on the outside.

Chilson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ryback is trying to escape the position but Chilson is controlling the position.

Chilson stands up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Chilson blocks a head kick by Ryback.
Ryback misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Chilson shoots in for a takedown but Ryback shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Ryback tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Chilson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Chilson works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Chilson is trying for a kimura here. Ryback looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Chilson wins by kimura!
