PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Errol Field (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryo Kuma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Field's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Best of Sakuraba. Kuma has chosen Zetsubou Billy as his entrance music. Errol Field is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Errol Field!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryo Kuma!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Field shoots for a double leg takedown but Kuma sprawls well. He's pushed Field's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kuma tries to clinch but Field moves out of range.
Kuma fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Field.
Field takes a kick to the side of the head.
Kuma turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Field will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kuma stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kuma wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Errol Field. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kuma pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Field back to the cage. Kuma follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Kuma connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
A head kick from Kuma lands but Field takes it in his stride.
A left and a right from Kuma both land. Nice combination.

Field scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kuma wants to get back to his feet.

Field tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Field has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Kuma wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Field tries for a kimura but Kuma is defending well.
Field slows the pace down.
Kuma is trying to get back to his feet.
Field is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Kuma will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Kuma is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Field asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kuma is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Kuma looks gassed!

Field wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kuma, who protects the arm well.

Field thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Kuma wants to get back to his feet.
Kuma is trying to escape the position but Field is controlling the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Field lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Field goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kuma has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Field but great work by Kuma.
Field gets back to half guard.
Field wants to improve his position but Kuma is controlling well.
Field wants to sweep but Kuma has passed to side control!
Kuma wants to stand but Field is controlling his arm.
Field is trying to get back to half guard.
Field keeping his opponent close.
Kuma tries to stand but Field is controlling his head.

You can see the frustration on Field's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kuma misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Field takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kuma tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Field striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Errol Field will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Field shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kuma as he avoids it easily.
Kuma rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Field moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kuma lands a jab-cross combination.
Kuma lands a head kick!
Kuma pushes Field away with a front kick.
Kuma scores with a spinning back kick!
Kuma throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Kuma throws a leg kick which misses Field's front leg but catches the back leg as Field tries to avoid it.

Field looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Kuma!
Kuma wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Field goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Kuma is on top in guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Field is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kuma passes Field's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Kuma tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Field.
Field keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Kuma has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Field works to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kuma avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kuma with a nice head shot there.

Field looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Field looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Kuma trying to control but Field is working from the bottom.
Errol Field overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Field has control of Kuma's left arm, preventing Kuma from doing any damage.
Kuma loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kuma must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Field is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kuma is aware though and is defending well.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ryo Kuma wasn't active enough on the ground.

Field drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Field jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Errol Field will probably get the nod.

and Field counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kuma won't be happy with that.
