The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Head tries to clinch up but Porunov circles away and keeps his distance.
Porunov keeps the fight on the outside.

Porunov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Porunov showed some decent athleticism there.

Porunov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Head is just riding it out for now. Porunov eventually gives up the hold.

Porunov seems to be looking for submissions.
Head is staying active underneath Porunov, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Porunov jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Head manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Porunov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Head lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Head misses with a looping right.
A looping hook to the body misses from Head. Porunov does a little dance to reset his feet.

Head has taken the fight to the clinch.
Head misses with a knee to the head.
Porunov jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Head walks away with a smile on his face. Porunov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Head moves in looking to clinch but Porunov pushes him off.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Head.
Porunov shoots in for a takedown but Head shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The fight stays on the outside here - Head looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Porunov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Head fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Porunov, pushing him back against the cage.
A body shot lands from Head.
Head tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Head is pressed up against the cage. Porunov has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Head down to the mat. Head avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Head moves into the clinch successfully.
Head gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Porunov.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Porunov goes for a takedown attempt but Head pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Richard Head has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ilya Porunov.

Head shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Porunov eats them both and turns towards Head to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Porunov seems to have recovered his senses.

Head lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Porunov backwards.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Head creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Head prevents a takedown attempt there.
Head lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Porunov to his knees! Head keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
