PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kirkland Kandell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anderson is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Tony Anderson could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Kirkland Kandell's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kirkland Kandell!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Joseph Jones and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Anderson enables Kandell to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Anderson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Anderson is breathing heavily.
Kandell not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like Kandell might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kirkland Kandell.

Kandell fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Anderson sprawls well initially but Kandell persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kandell not doing much here.

Kandell is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kandell works his way into full mount!

Kandell is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Kandell misses with a hook.
Kandell misses with a series of wild punches.
Kandell thows a left - swing and a miss!

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Anderson gets caught napping as Kandell dives in and scores a takedown. Anderson manages to retain guard.

Anderson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kandell on the ground.
Kandell passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Kandell decides to stand up, so the ref orders Anderson to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kandell throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Anderson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kandell is in Anderson's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kandell is stalling in the full guard.

Kandell decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Anderson, up you get!
Anderson keeps the fight on the outside.
Horrible takedown by Kandell or perhaps it was just good defense by Anderson which made him look bad.
Kandell pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kandell will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Kandell moves into the clinch successfully.
Anderson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Anderson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kandell prevents it.

Kandell wants the takedown. Anderson is fighting it off but Kandell persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Anderson's guard against the cage.
Kandell controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Let's hope that Kandell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Kandell wants to control from the top but Anderson keeps moving.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kandell is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kirkland Kandell dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kandell lands with a slapping head kick.
Kandell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Anderson but Anderson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Anderson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kandell to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kirkland Kandell wasn't active enough on the ground.
Some bone on bone action there as Anderson checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Kandell doesn't manage to clinch there - Anderson circles away.

Anderson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Kandell swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Kandell drives through with a takedown into Anderson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Kandell passes into half guard.

Kandell decides to stand up.

Kandell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kandell passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Anderson!

Kandell manages to capitalize on a mistake by Anderson to take his back!

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Kandell loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Anderson hold on?
What can Anderson do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Kandell has managed to slip his arm under Anderson's chin. This could be all over... yep, Anderson is tapping out! Submission win for Kandell.
