Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gilberto Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JD Darbyshire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, JD Darbyshire!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Mendez. No joy for Darbyshire on that attempt.

Mendez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mendez lands in his opponent's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Darbyshire holds on and takes a little breather.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Darbyshire can do anything to dispel that myth.

Darbyshire tries to lock up and control but Mendez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Mendez postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Darbyshire looks a forlorn figure.

Mendez gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Still in the clinch, Mendez scores with a nice short uppercut.

Mendez feints and as Darbyshire raises his hands in defense, Mendez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mendez throws a lazy right hand but Darbyshire sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darbyshire gets caught flat footed, as Mendez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Darbyshire is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mendez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Darbyshire has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mendez has managed to get both his arms back between Darbyshire's legs - danger averted.

Darbyshire can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mendez controls the pace.
Mendez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Mendez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Darbyshire looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
You can see the frustration on Darbyshire's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Darbyshire can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Gilberto Mendez.

Mendez has managed to clinch.
Darbyshire is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mendez to keep the fight standing.
Darbyshire is pushing Mendez up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Mendez has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Darbyshire avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Well Mendez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
