Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marty Downer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slavic Rayne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slavic Rayne is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marty Downer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Slavic Rayne!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Downer shoots in and gets a takedown into Rayne's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Rayne is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Downer slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rayne striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Rayne tries to buck Downer off but Downer is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rayne is looking for a sweep. Downer is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Downer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rayne tries to reverse the position but Downer maintains control.

Downer breaks from Rayne's wrist control and lands an elbow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rayne misses with a takedown attempt - Downer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Rayne counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Downer holds on and takes a little breather.
Downer is breathing heavily.
Rayne stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Downer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marty Downer will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Rayne decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Downer's guard.
Rayne postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Downer wants to sweep here but Rayne controlling him for the moment.

Downer pulls Rayne in close to prevent any damage.
Rayne stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Downer swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rayne sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Downer's guard.
Downer won't allow Rayne to pass to mount.
Downer is controlling Rayne's trapped leg to prevent Rayne from advancing to side control.
Slavic Rayne has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rayne is looking to advance position but Downer won't allow it.
Rayne is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Downer is looking for a triangle but Rayne pushes his legs off easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Downer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Downer tries to get out of the position.

Slavic Rayne showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Downer throws a nice looking combination but Rayne bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Downer connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Downer fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rayne to the ground. Downer is now in Rayne's guard.

Rayne is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Downer jumps into side control!
Downer looks up at the clock and then as Rayne takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Downer smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Rayne wants to get back to his feet but Downer drags him back down.
Rayne is trying to improve his position.
Downer works to advance to full mount. Rayne defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rayne is looking to improve his position but Downer isn't that keen on the idea.
Rayne is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marty Downer.
I think Downer has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
