The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
St John goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by St John.

Rivera shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Rivera has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of St John's face.
Rivera postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. St John looks a forlorn figure.

Rivera changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. St John tries to avoid it but Rivera manages to keep hold of a leg and drag St John to the ground. St John escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A close second round but Mia St John will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

St John has gone for a leg lock! Rivera slips out almost immediately though and dives into St John's guard.
St John keeping moving, preventing Rivera from controlling successfully.

Rivera wants to control from the top but St John keeps moving.

St John has his foot on Rivera's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rivera works his way back into a safe position though.

Rivera stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. St John swivels though and keeps the full guard.

St John throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Rivera wants to get up but he can't break St John's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

St John dives in and grabs Rivera's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rivera pushes down on St John's head and hops out.

Rivera shoots for a double leg takedown but St John sprawls well. He's pushed Rivera's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rivera throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around St John's waist but St John gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rivera off to one side.

St John scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
St John closes the distance and clinches up with Rivera, looking for a takedown. St John pushes Rivera against the cage but Rivera circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
