PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between William Hatfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gordon Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hatfield comes to the cage accompanied by Country Boy Can Survive. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gordon Clark!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hatfield fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Clark shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hatfield manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Clark is working Hatfield over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Hatfield escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Clark gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hatfield lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Clark!
Clark is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Hatfield thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Hatfield jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Clark is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Clark and Hatfield has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
You can see the frustration on Clark's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hatfield is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Clark knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Hatfield escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Clark gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Clark wants to control from the top but Hatfield keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hatfield is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Clark stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hatfield swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Clark postures up in Hatfield's guard and throws a big left but Hatfield blocks it.

Clark must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gordon Clark showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Hatfield leaves Clark with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A jab from Clark misses.
Hatfield doesn't manage to clinch there - Clark circles away.
Clark shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hatfield sprawls well. Hatfield wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Clark gets slowly back to his feet.
Hatfield throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Clark's waist but Clark gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hatfield off to one side.
Clark tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hatfield sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Clark somewhat.
William Hatfield has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gordon Clark.
Clark shoots in but Hatfield avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Clark misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hatfield.

Clark uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Hatfield has time to react.
Hatfield slips under a jab from Clark.
Clark throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Clark misses with a jab, cross combination.
Hatfield will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Clark has control of Hatfield's left arm, preventing Hatfield from doing any damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hatfield looking to sit in guard and control but Clark gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

William Hatfield overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Clark loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to William Hatfield.
I think Hatfield has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
