Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Eater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Gillett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Adam Eater has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Adam Eater!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Gillett!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gillett looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Eater!
Gillett can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Eater is looking to escape.

Gillett wants to finish this one by submission but Eater is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gillett.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Eater is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Eater throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Eater tries to hold on but Gillett pushes him away.
Eater manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Gillett looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Eater with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gillett perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Gillett blocks the strikes from Eater.
Eater is looking to improve his position.

Gillett is looking for a kimura but Eater is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gillett to get the leverage.
Eater gets back to full guard.

Gillett got a little sloppy there for a moment and Eater has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gillett has managed to get both his arms back between Eater's legs - danger averted.

Eater makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Gillett throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Eater fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gillett sprawls well initially but Eater persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Gillett pushes Eater off and gets back to his feet.

Eater feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gillett wants to get back to his feet but Eater is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Eater postures up in Gillett's guard and throws a big left but Gillett blocks it.
Eater is looking to work some ground and pound but Gillett has wrist control.
Eater will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Eater passes Gillett's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

and Gillett counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Gillett attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Eater shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gillett manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Gillett working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Eater doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Eater manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Eater stands up over Gillett, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Eater drops back looking for a leg! Gillett is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gillett manages to kick Eater off! Eater jumps back into Gillett's guard.

Eater stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gillett swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gillett controls Eater momentarily but Eater frees himself.
Adam Eater overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Gillett stands and throws Eater's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Eater tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gillett wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Gillett in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Gillett decides to stand back up. Gillett steps back and let's Eater get back to his feet.

Eater changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gillett looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Gillett comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gillett is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Eater wants to sweep but no luck.
Eater wants to stand up but Gillett is controlling him.
Eater has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Gillett has passed into side control.

Gillett tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Adam Eater.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Eater, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
