PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alistar Ovareem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stefan Struve (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stefan Struve told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Alistar Ovareem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Stefan Struve!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Steven Brown and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ovareem shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Ovareem really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ovareem prevents Struve from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Struve is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Struve has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ovareem is working away from the top position though.
Ovareem frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Struve tries to lock up and control but Ovareem gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ovareem lands with some strikes.

It looks like Stefan Struve has been cut.
Ovareem raining down hammerfists from mount.
Ovareem unloads with some shots from mount but Struve bucks and avoids them well.

Struve defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ovareem.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ovareem controlling the position easily from mount.
Ovareem lands a heavy elbow.

Ovareem pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Ovareem takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ovareem wants to control the pace but Struve is squirming around nicely.

Ovareem goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Struve turns into him and now he's in Ovareem's guard.

Struve trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ovareem is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ovareem wants to lay and pray for a moment but Struve keeps working.
Struve is looking to improve his position.
Ovareem moves into full mount! Struve won't be happy about that!
Struve wants to control but Ovareem is having none of it.

Ovareem thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Ovareem postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Struve looks a forlorn figure.
You get the feeling that Struve really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Ovareem lands a heavy elbow.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Struve tries to hold on but Ovareem postures up.

Ovareem is looking to advance position but Struve won't allow it.

Ovareem wants to work for an arm triangle but Struve is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Ovareem is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Struve is refusing to be controlled, as Ovareem sits in half guard.

Struve looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Ovareem pushes past his half guard into mount!
Struve in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
BOOM! Ovareem connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Ovareem is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Struve has given up his back here.
Struve trying to control but not successfully.
Ovareem is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Struve can do to turn this around?

Struve tries to escape but Ovareem has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Ovareem looking to break Struve's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Struve remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Ovareem will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Ovareem will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ovareem controlling the position well here. Struve rolled but Ovareem kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Struve just trying to survive but Ovareem is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Ovareem lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Ovareem.

Ovareem working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Struve is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Ovareem has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Struve taps out!
